7 Probiotic Drink Recipes to Keep Your Gut Healthy

Most of us think bacteria are disease-causing organisms. But are you aware that certain bacteria in your body are good for healthy body function? These are the good or friendly bacteria called probiotics that are vital for gut health. Both probiotic foods and drinks are great for treating diarrhea, curing urinary tract infections, and decreasing inflammation.

If you are more interested to know which the best probiotic drink is, here we share with you the seven healthy drinks to include in your diet:

1. Milk Kefir

Generally, kefir grains are useful for fermenting milk. It looks more like paneer grains (or khoya). To prepare this drink, you have to add some kefir grains into a cup of milk. Let it sit for about 24 hours to allow the grains to ferment the milk. After that strain the milk and enjoy your perfect probiotic drink.

2. Probiotic Lemonade

For preparing probiotic lemonade, you have to dissolve around 1–2 tablespoons of sugar in a hot water glass and mix it well. After that, add lemon juice and let it cool down. When the water is cool, add one tablespoon of whey protein to it and stir well. Cover the glass and let it sit at room temperature for around 2–3 days.

Within 2–3 days, the lemonade will extract all the essential probiotics for your gut. However, you need to be careful with the temperature. If the temperature is high, your drink may get spoilt.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

Another best probiotic drink to make at home is the apple cider vinegar drink. You need to take a glass of water and add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to it. Also, add around a pinch of cinnamon powder to it. This drink is good to keep your stomach healthy.

4. Coconut Kefir

It is a flavourful kefir drink. For this, you have to take around 2–3 cups of coconut water in a bowl or jar and add a few grains of kefir to it. Keep a jar lid on and let the drink sit for 48 hours. After that, strain the coconut water and reuse the kefir grains for another batch of your probiotic drink.

5. Buttermilk

It is a common Indian drink that’s often enjoyed with Sarson ka saag and Makki ki roti, especially in North India. To make this drink, you need one cup of curd and one glass of water. Blend them well and your drink is ready to enjoy. You may even add coriander powder, roaster cumin seeds, and rock salt for enhancing its taste.

6. Yakult

Yakult is a packaged probiotic milk beverage created by a Japanese company. The manufacturing process of this drink involves fermenting skimmed milk with a bacterial strain called Lactobacillus casei Shirota (LcS). It is a tasty sweet-citrusy drink with more than 6.5 billion good bacteria. You can easily buy it from the market or online.
